Introduction
2008-2009 School Year:
Welcome to Ms. Amerian's English classes!
Reminders & Updates:
Monday through Thursday, school is in session from 8:10 a.m. until 2:44 p.m. Remember, Fridays are minimum days, with school beginning at 8:10 a.m. and letting out at 12:21 p.m.
This year, I will be teaching five sections of English 9/10 (Freshman/Sophmore English). The class will continue to have a heavy focus on essay writing, as well as poetry, speech, grammar, literature, and CAHSEE preparation. In addition, we will also look at using film as literature, journal writing, in-class silent-sustained reading (SSR), and various literature-based projects.
Class Policies & Procedures:
All students must earn 70 hours seat hours of credit, or 60 hours with "outside" homework (this includes special practice packets or special projects).
Students must make up any work that they miss while absent. I have a notebook on my desk that details everyday's lessons, or a student can approach another student or me to find out what they missed.
Students may listen to their ipods quietly during independent work.
Water bottles are acceptable in class. I do not mind gum as long as it finds its way to the trash kind after its life expectancy.
Students must respect each other, school property, and me, as well as clean up after themselves.
I reserve the right to assign afterschool tutorial for excessive tardies and/or absences, or any behavioral issues in class.
