Introduction Welcome to all our new and returning students and families. Transition is a community based, work experience, life skills class where we are primarily "learning through doing."
All students are expected to follow the student rules of our school. In addition, they should follow the three rules of our Tranistion class: Have a positive attitude; Try your hardest; and Treat others with respect.
Our program is taken for Credit/No Credit. The only grade reflected on the transcript will be for citizenship. A student will pass the class, if they abide by the rules, do their class assignments, follow directions, and are in class a minimum of 60 hours for each five units of credit. I will contact parents/guardians/care providers if any remediation needs to take place.
The late policy of our school states that students are expected to be in class, ready for instruction, by the time the last bell rings. Unless a student is late due to our Transportation Department, the teacher will call their home if they are late more than twice in a semester.
All students should have a copy of our weekly schedule. Please contact me if you need another one sent home.
Kindly note that our school has implemented a dress code policy that will be strictly enforced. Even though you can "opt" out of the dress code, certain rules must be followed. For example, students are never allowed to wear sleeveless garments. All those in violation, will be immediately sent to the office. It is not up to me, or the aides, to make exceptions to this policy.
Lastly. this is a reminder that your student needs to be prepared for school and community activities. They should always have a pen or pencil, paper, and a watch.
In closing, I want you all to know just how much I love teaching this class. It is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
Always feel free to contact me at sdixon@guhsd.net or at 619-668-6105.
